About

They were both concert pianists and were held in high regard as performing artists. Both emigrated from (partitioned) Poland. Their own music has not received due recognition to this day. These, in brief, are the main points that Józef Wieniawski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski have in common. Józef Wieniawski's String Quartet, written more or less at the same time as Paderewski's Variations and Fugue, was published in Leipzig in 1882 as his Opus 32.

Established in 2007, the Meccore String Quartet is one of Europe's most compelling ensembles. The quartet has received numerous awards during prestigious chamber music competitions. The unique instrument on this album was awarded to Henryk Wieniawski in 1846 as a prize for the best violinist graduating from the Conservatoire de Paris. The violin was built by Ch. F. Gand (the father), one of the most highly regarded French violin makers of the nineteenth century, considered as Nicolas Lupot's most gifted pupil. Many famous Romantic virtuosi performed on his instruments. Violins from his workshops, now rare, fulfil the highest standards of the craft.
