About

The world-premiere recording of works by Philipp Scharwenka performed by pianist Cansu Şanlıdağ.

A composer and pedagogue of Polish origin, Philipp Scharwenka established himself as a key figure in 19th-century Berlin's musical scene. As an accomplished pianist and respected professor, he co-founded the Scharwenka Conservatory while leaving behind a body of work marked by melancholy and drama, reflecting a deep inner life. His influence, though subtle, crossed borders from Berlin to the United States.

The Abendstimmungen (Evening Thoughts), dedicated to Moritz Mayer-Mahr, is perhaps Scharwenka's most intimate musical expression. These nocturnal works offer us an introspective journey, at times calm, at times troubled, in which the sky of a dark night is sometimes illuminated by the fleeting light of a star that pierces the darkness.

Cansu Şanlıdağ is a pianist renowned for her expressive playing and virtuosity, captivating audiences across various European venues. Trained at the State Conservatory of Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir, she refined her artistry under the mentorship of Dalia Ouziel and Aleksandar Mad˛ar at the Royal Conservatory of Mons and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She further enhanced her interpretative skills through the postgraduate programme at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Markus Hadulla.

Cansu Şanlıdağ has performed as a soloist with esteemed ensembles such as I Musici Bruscellencis, the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Her passion for unearthing forgotten musical treasures led to a collaboration with violinist Philippe Graffin, unveiling unpublished works by Ysa˙e. A frequent guest at prestigious festivals like the Music Chapel Festival and the Traces Festival, she is also dedicated to education, teaching at Near East University and conducting masterclasses throughout Europe.
