About

In celebration of Pierre Cochereau, the legendary organist of Notre Dame de Paris, his centenary year from 1924 to 2024, British-American organist David Briggs, currently the artist in residence at St John the Divine in New York City, teamed up with Jake Purches of Base2 Music to produce a recording showcasing a selection of Briggs's transcriptions of Cochereau's improvisations.

Briggs meticulously researched and transcribed these works from available recordings. The resulting performance took place on the Walker organ at Exeter College, Oxford, in September 2024. This project is presented as a hybrid SACD disc, featuring a standard CD layer that is compatible with any CD player, and an SACD layer offering true high-definition stereo and 5.1 surround sound options. The original recording was captured at 352.8 kHz and 32-bit resolution, then converted directly to DSD audio as well as to 44.1 kHz and 16-bit for CD stereo audio.
