About

The birth of the cello is situated at the beginning of the 16th century, when it was known as the violin bass or violone. One part of the programme of this disc, nicely entitled “Partite Modenesi”, is devoted to the first collection of cello sonatas published in 1687 in Bologna by Giovanni Battista degli Antoni. The other part takes us to Modena which, under the reign of Duke Francesco II d’Este, was one of the great artistic centres of Italy at the time (1680-1690) with musicians such as Bononcini, Uccelini and Vitali.

Cappella Estense:
- Maximiliano Segura Sánchez (cello, bass violin)
- Cristina Grifone (soprano)
- Panos Iliopoulos (harpsichord)
- Javier Ovejero Mayoral (theorbo, Baroque guitar)
